Accessing Grandstream APs that are not in the GWNCloud

When you're trying to access the Grandstream AP's that are older but aren't in GWNCloud. Read through all steps before beginning so you can download the required software.

  1. Reset the device, hold the reset button for 15 seconds and release, the device LEDs should flash red, then they will go green and finally a magenta color.

  2. You will need to isolate the devices, they need to be connected to a switch and a router that can provide DHCP while not connected to the internet.
  3. You will need to connect the APs to a switch and have your computer and the router to supply DHCP connected to the switch as well.
  4. If this happens you will need to log into the devices manually using an older version of firefox ideally from this link here which are official Mozilla downloads from their archives. https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/73.0/win64/en-CA/

  5. Once you have this downloaded and installed you'll open the the IP address of the device (using advanced IP scanner or the GWN discovery tool) the username and password for the device should be admin - admin.

  6. You'll be asked to create new passwords, make all of them 7627.

  7. Once into the device click the "System Settings" drop down >Select Maintenance >Upgrade.

  8. In the top left corner it will display the firmware version. Take note of this for the next step.

  9. You will want to make note of the notes next to the Grandstream 7610 and take the firmware link listed (ex. firmware.grandstream.com/gwnap/1_0_25_33) and drop that into the firmware server box, click >save >apply >upgrade now.

  10. In case the Grandstream 7610 firmware is older, it will need to be upgraded via TFTP server. Download Solarwinds TFTP Server: https://www.solarwinds.com/free-tools/free-tftp-server
  11. Disable firewall in the computer running TFTP Server.
  12. Log back in the Grandstream, System Settings > Maintenance > Upgrade > Firmware Server, enter computer IP address. Click Upgrade.
    1. If Upgrade fails, go to Debug > Ping/Traceroute, enter 8.8.8.8 in the Target and click Run. See if there is packet loss. If not, enter computer IP and run test again until it returns packets. Then continue upgrade process.
  1. The device will show it is upgrading, wait until the device LEDs turn blue. Now access the IP address in your normal browser and log back in(username should now be admin and the password 7627).

  2. Select the Access Points drop down >Configuration >select your device >Transfer AP >GWN cloud >Transfer >Select the new network the device will be associated with.

  3. Congrats, you just reached into the past and added this device to the GWN Cloud management tool where you can access the device remotely and manage its info.
